Rosalia Vila Tobella[2] (born 25 September 1992),[3] known mononymously as Rosalia (Spanish: [rosa'li.a], Catalan: [ruz@'li.@]),[4][5][6] is a Spanish singer. She was raised in Barcelona and has been called an "atypical pop star" due to her various musical styles. When she was enthralled by Spanish folk music when she was thirteen, she studied musicology at the Catalonia College of Music while also performing in musical bars and weddings.She was able to complete her studies with distinction, thanks to the cover album she recorded together with Raul Refree in Los Angeles (2017), and the baccalaureate project El Mal Querer (2018). The album reinvented flamenco by combining it with pop and hip-hop. The two singles "Malamente", and "Pienso En Tu Mira" were a hit among the Spanish populace and won widespread critical acclaim. El Mal Querer was the first to introduce Rosalia to the international music scene. Rosalia's albums of 2019 "Con Altura" (13) and "Yo x Ti Tu x Mi" (12-13) were pioneers in the field of urbano music, and achieved international popularity. With her third studio album Motomami (2022) she gave reggaeton an innovative style, straying slightly from the flamenco style of her first album. The album gained the attention of the world with its two singles "La Fama" and "Saoko" and went on to become the top-rated album of the year on Metacritic. Rosalia has had ten top one songs in her native country over her entire career. This is the most she's ever had a local artist. Rosalia has received 11 Latin Grammy Awards, two Grammy Awards, four MTV Video Music Awards, four MTV Europe Music Awards with three UK Music Video Awards, and two Premio Ruido Awards. In 2019, Billboard awarded her the Rising Star Award for "changing the sound of today's mainstream music by introducing a fresh, flamenco-inspired pop",[18and was the first singer from Spain in history to be nominated for the Best New Artist award at the Grammys Rosalia was born on 25 September 1992 in Sant Cugat del Valles and raised in Sant Esteve Sesrovires,[20][21][22] Baix Llobregat, Catalonia. She is the youngest of four children born to Pilar Tobella, an entrepreneur who runs a small metalworking business. Jose Manuel Vila, her father, was born in Cudillero. They divorced in 2019. She has a younger sister, Pilar Vila ("born 1989") is her stylist and creative director. Rosalia was attracted to performing arts from the age of five. She was able to discover the discography of Camaron De la Isla. She began her musical studies at Taller de Musics. She completed a 6 year program in the academy. She took classes at the Raval School, and later moved to the Superior School of Music of Catalonia. She also independently worked as an independent singer at weddings and musical bars in which she was paid "a little over 80 euros or for dinner".
